‘Thinking About Him’ – Report Names 57 Year Old As Potential Replacement For Ten Hag At United

Ex-Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui is one of the managers who would be considered if Manchester United do dispense with the services of Erik ten Hag, according to AS.

The 57-year-old left Molineux on the eve of the season following disagreements with Wolves’ owners but AS claim that United are “thinking about him” if there is a change of manager.

Currently, ten Hag has complete support from the board, but performances and results have been dire this campaign.

The Red Devils have already lost 6 league games, and find themselves 12 points adrift of leaders Arsenal after 14 matches.

Ten Hag’s side are also in danger of exiting the Champions League at the group stage, while they have been knocked out of the Carabao Cup.

Lopetegui has been linked with the United job before

When Ole Gunnar Solksjaer was sacked in 2021, it was reported that superagent Jorge Mendes had offered Lopetegui to the Red Devils.

At the time, the former Spain head coach was at Sevilla, and there was a release clause in his contract that would have made him a realistic option. In the end, the Manchester club opted to appoint Ralf Rangnick instead.

Lopetegui is keen on another job in England

Despite leaving Wolves, AS report that the Spaniard is still “living” in the UK, and it looks as if he is very interested in having another crack at a Premier League team.

Lopetegui has reportedly turned down an eyewatering figure to manage Al-Ittihad. The Saudi Arabian club are said to have offered him €18m (£15.4m) a year to replace Nuno Espirito Santo.

For now, ten Hag remains in the dugout at Old Trafford. The Dutchman needs some good performances in upcoming fixtures against Chelsea, Bournemouth, Bayern Munich and Liverpool to avoid the axe, otherwise, there will be further speculation about his future.
