‘He Has Been Doing This For Far Too Long’ ‘This Isn’t Anything New’ Fans React As Scholes Points Finger At United Star

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has singled out Diogo Dalot for criticism following the defeat to FC Copenhagen.

The Portuguese fullback failed to mark Lukas Lerager properly for Copenhagen’s equaliser and he didn’t manage to close down Roony Bardghji for the home side’s winner either. Scholes expressed disappointment with Dalot’s poor concentration as he also lamented the lack of leadership in United’s squad:

“They had a 2-0 lead and it happened again and then they conceded in the 83rd minute, Dalot caught sleeping – he needs to be aware of where his attacking player is.”

“I don’t feel like there is a character in the team. You need someone to say, we’ve conceded a goal, it’s OK but let’s make sure we don’t concede another one. There doesn’t seem to be a leader to stop that second goal from happening and they have paid the price.”

Fans on X were not best pleased with Dalot’s performance, with many also questioning his form this season:

United’s defending in the Champions League has been atrocious

Erik ten Hag‘s side have now conceded 11 goals in just four group games. Although there are some mitigating circumstances for the Copenhagen game, as they went down to ten men pretty early on, the team has simply not been good enough defensively.

Dalot’s display on Wednesday night just typifies what we have seen from the Red Devils at the back this season.

Will Dalot stay in the team to face Luton?

Sergio Reguilon could come in to replace Dalot for United’s fixture against the Hatters this weekend. The Spaniard would also offer more width as he is naturally left-sided.

Dalot needs to try and rediscover some of the form from last campaign if he is to continue to be a first-team regular.
