United Lining Up 26M Bid For 19 Year Old Defender As Ten Hag Eyes First January Deal

Manchester United are preparing a €30m (£26m) offer for Lyon right-back Malo Gusto, according to reports in the French media.

Both the Red Devils and Chelsea have been linked with the 19-year-old in recent weeks but it seems as if Erik ten Hag’s side will be the ones to make the first move for the player.

Recruiting some competition for Diogo Dalot is thought to be a priority. While ten Hag praised Aaron Wan-Bissaka following his display in the Carabao Cup against Burnley, it is still believed the fullback will be sold next month for the right price.

If that happens then strengthening the right-hand side of defence is of primary importance. Gusto is very similar to Dalot in terms of his attacking instincts. When asked about his style of play in an interview last year, the teenager said:

“Rather attacking, punchy, powerful, fast, technically adept. And I think those are the qualities that a modern fullback should have today. I know I still have to work on my defensive positioning and tracking back.”

It is believed that Lyon will listen to offers in excess of €30m (£26m) for Gusto so we shall see if United’s reported opening bid will be enough.
