Report Names The Game That Mason Mount Is Targeting For Return To United Squad

Manchester United midfielder Mason Mount is set to return for the club’s first Champions League fixture later this month, according to The Athletic.

The £55m summer signing from Chelsea has missed the last 2 matches against Nottingham Forest and Arsenal due to a hamstring problem.

However, Mount has stepped up his comeback and, after a follow-up scan giving him the all-clear to train, a return against Bayern Munich is very likely.

The Athletic claim that there is still an “outside chance” that he will feature in the game versus Brighton at Old Trafford next weekend, but manager Erik ten Hag does not want to take any chances on his fitness.

Mount is, therefore, expecting to be named in the squad when they take on Bayern in Germany a week on Wednesday.

Ten Hag will be delighted to have at least one player back from injury

Despite only being a month into the new season, the Red Devils have no less than 11 players on the sidelines.

In addition to Mount, the likes of Sofyan Amrabat (back), Scott McTominay (illness), Lisandro Martinez (foot), Victor Lindelof (illness), Kobbie Mainoo (knee), Luke Shaw (muscular), Raphael Varane (knock), Amad Diallo (knee), Tom Heaton (calf) and Tyrell Malacia are all currently unavailable.

A few could well return for the Brighton fixture, but it is certainly not an ideal situation for ten Hag to have so many players out of contention this early on in the campaign.

Mount will want to show fans what he can do

The midfielder put in two very poor performances against Wolves and Tottenham before his injury setback, and United supporters would hope for more from him once he is back fit and available.

Mount will be keen to show the form that led to him being named Chelsea’s player of the year on two separate occasions.
