Manchester United are “targeting” the Arsenal game on September 3rd for Rasmus Hojlund’s debut, according to The Athletic.

The Danish international joined the Red Devils from Atalanta in a £72m deal last week, but he is currently undergoing treatment on a back injury.

While the issue was flagged in Hojlund’s medical, it did not stop the transfer from going ahead, as it was deemed a “minor” problem that should clear up in a few weeks.

When asked about the length of time that the striker would be out for, manager Erik ten Hag refused to put a timeframe on his return, but he did state he is making “good progress” with the player’s fitness being assessed “day to day.”

Hojlund is already back on the grass at Carrington

The 20-year-old is currently on an individual training programme as he works his way back to full fitness, so he has been seen in drills out on the club’s training pitches.

However, you do need to be careful with back injuries and Hojlund’s recovery will be monitored closely to ensure there are no setbacks. Even if he is available for the Arsenal match, he may only be fit enough for the bench.

Who else is on United’s treatment table?

Kobbie Mainoo injured his ankle in pre-season, and the club have said the midfielder will miss the “first part” of the 2023/24 campaign so it could be a couple of months before we see him in action again.

Amad Diallo is in the same situation, having sustained a knee injury, while Tyrell Malacia has a muscular problem that is expected to keep him out for the first few weeks of the new season.

Dean Henderson is still a United player, despite intense speculation about his future, and the keeper remains out of contention, having undergone surgery on a thigh injury back in May.
