United Handed Huge Transfer Setback As Serie A Star Confirms New Contract Is “Close” To Being Finalised

Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar has confirmed he is on the verge of signing a new contract with the Nerazzurri.

The Slovakian international is reportedly one of four centre-backs that Manchester United are targeting to strengthen the backline in the summer.

However, speaking about his future to reporters, Skriniar said a new deal was close to being agreed:

“My contract renewal? We are close, I have a great relationship with the club.”

The 24-year-old currently has three and a half years left on his current contract but Inter have been keen to quash speculation about his future.

United have been heavily linked with Skriniar for a number of months with a £58m offer reportedly having been considered in the January transfer window.

The defender has helped the Serie A club concede just 17 goals in 24 appearances this campaign; the third best defensive record in the league.

If the Slovakian is no longer a realistic target for United, they may look to Napoli’s Kalidou Kouilbaly, Fiorentina’s Nikola Milenkovic or Sampdoria’s Joachim Andersen as possible alternatives.
