Tottenham Star Has Snubbed United And Everton Despite Both Clubs Being “Willing” To Pay 35M To Sign Him

Tottenham forward Steven Bergwijn has turned down moves to Manchester United and Everton, according to De Telegraaf‘s Mike Verweij.

The reliable Dutch journalist claims that both teams were “willing” to match Spurs’s £35m asking price but the player wanted to join Ajax instead:

Verweij says that Ajax have managed to agree a deal for Bergwijn which is worth €30m (£26m); that is significantly below the offers made by United and Everton.

Considering that he wasn’t a regular for Antonio Conte’s side, it may seem surprising that the Red Devils were pursuing the Netherlands international but it should be pointed out that manager Erik ten Hag is a fan of the player.

He tried to sign Bergwijn when he was at Ajax and now, ironically, it appears that his former club have beaten him to the 24-year-old’s signature. Considering he is a left winger by trade, it isn’t exactly an area where United are short of options so losing out on him won’t be seen as a major blow.
