Manchester United will not make a move for Bayern Munich defender David Alaba, according to reports in the English media.
There had been claims in the Spanish press that the Red Devils and rivals Manchester City had made contact with the Austrian international ahead of a possible free transfer at the end of the season.
Alaba is expected to leave Bayern when his contract expires in June, and he has also been linked with the likes of Chelsea, Barcelona and Real Madrid, but a switch to Old Trafford now appears dead in the water. Fans on Twitter can’t believe the club have turned down down the chance to sign the 28-year-old:

It is a bit of a head-scratcher. United are in the market for a centre-half and with a two-time Champions League winner available for free, it would seem to be a good fit.
However, Alaba is thought to be demanding a sizeable salary and the Red Devils may well be hesitant about repeating past mistakes when it comes to signing older players who are looking for a big payday.
