Manchester United have joined Manchester City and Chelsea in the race to sign Bayern Munich defender David Alaba, according to reports in England.

The Austrian international has turned down a €15m a season contract to stay at the Allianz Arena and, with the 28-year-old having less than one year remaining on his current deal, he could be sold before the end of the transfer window.

Alaba is equally capable of playing at left-back, centre-back or in midfield and supporters on Twitter are calling on United to get the deal over the line:

There are claims that Alaba could well be a Premier League player within a fortnight once Bayern’s participation in the Champions League comes to an end.

However, just a note of caution, reports in Germany have claimed that the Austrian is only keen on moving to Spain if he doesn’t remain at Bayern. With neither Barcelona nor Real Madrid able to afford the player at the moment, he could join either club on a free transfer next summer instead.
