Manchester United are expected to hand manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer a new contract regardless of whether he wins a trophy this campaign, according to reports.
The Norwegian’s current deal at Old Trafford expires at the end of next season, and a decision will need to be made soon on whether to extend his stay at the club.
United’s hierarchy are thought to be content with the progress made under Solskjaer, both on and off the pitch, and they feel that is enough to warrant a new deal, but that is not a sentiment shared by most fans on Twitter:
This club is finished

Lmao what joke, i mean i want him to succeed and all but it’s a dumb opinion to give him a new contract yet, at least he should show he deserves it first

I think we’ve progressed but if you watch the games there hasn’t been alot of progress. Tactically he is very poor and 1 player has to show up for us to win out of nowhere. Most games this season are from a 1 goal margin

Some of the hostility towards Solskjaer is undoubtedly the result of the Red Devils crashing out of the FA Cup to Leicester last weekend. If United do finish second and go on to win the Europa League, though, supporters’ attitude toward the current manager will surely change.
On the other hand, if results do falter in the coming weeks, handing Solskjaer a new contract would certainly be a more controversial decision.
