The Top Five Best Signings From Germany In Premier League History

Following our look at the most successful transfers from Portugal in our last article, this week we will be focusing on players who have arrived from Germany.

The Bundesliga has many similarities in terms of the style of play to the Premier League, with quick transitions and high pressing commonplace, but that doesn’t necessarily mean new signings settle in England straight away.

In fact, as we have seen this season with the likes of Kai Havertz and Timo Werner, adaptation can take quite a while, but the majority of players on our list found English football a perfect fit for their game.

Press the next page as we count down the five best Premier League players who were signed from German teams.

5) Roberto Firmino (Hoffenheim to Liverpool – £29m)

The Brazilian is not a conventional forward by any stretch of the imagination, and he was initially utilised as a winger by Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers. However, after the arrival of Jurgen Klopp, he was used more centrally.

Playing as a deep-lying forward, he combined extremely well with Mo Salah and Sadio Mane to create a lethal front three which has reached two Champions League finals and lifted the Premier League title.

4) Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Borussia Dortmund to Arsenal – £56m)

The Gabonese international may have struggled for form last campaign but people are too quick to forget how much of an impact he made after arriving from Germany in the 2017 January transfer window.

Arsenal paid a club-record fee for Aubameyang but they got a return on their investment, with the striker winning the Golden Boot in his first full season in the Premier League. He has now racked up 64 league goals in three and a half seasons.

3) Son Heung-min (Bayer Leverkusen to Tottenham – £22m)

Not much was known about the South Korean before he arrived in this country from Leverkusen in 2015, but over the past six years, he has turned into one of the best inside forwards in the top flight.

After taking a year to settle in England, Son has gone on to hit double figures for league goals in five consecutive seasons, with his most (17) only coming last campaign.

2) Dimitar Berbatov (Bayer Leverkusen to Tottenham – £10.9m)

Although the Bulgarian international would go on to greater heights with Manchester United, Spurs did a great piece of business when they snapped him up from Germany in the summer of 2006.

Berbatov scored 46 goals in his two seasons at White Hart Lane, but he is equally adept at creating chances for others, as well as putting the ball in the back of the net himself.

1) Kevin De Bruyne (Wolfsburg to Manchester City –  £55m)

With two consecutive PFA Player of the Year awards under his belt, the Belgian international deservedly comes out on top of this list. He has been integral to Pep Guardiola’s side, helping them win three of the last four Premier League titles.

De Bruyne has superb passing accuracy, but he has the vision to go along with it, meaning he is able to see passes others can’t and deliver the ball to the feet of his teammates. He is the archetypal playmaker.
