The TOP FIVE Best Paid Players In England’s 26 Man World Cup Squad

England manager Gareth Southgate confirmed his 26-man squad for the World Cup last week so we now know who will be flying the flag for the Three Lions in Qatar.

For today’s post, we have decided to take a closer look at the salaries of those who have flown out for the tournament.

All the players in our top five earn £200,000 a week or more, with three of them playing for the same Premier League club.

Press the next page as we count down the best paid players in England’s squad (based on figures from Capology).

5) Marcus Rashford – £200,000 a week

The striker’s contract at United actually expires at the end of the season, although the Red Devils are likely to trigger their option to extend his stay for a further year.

After struggling with form and confidence in recent campaigns, Rashford has looked revitalised under new United manager Erik ten Hag. He could make a big impression out in Qatar.

4) Phil Foden – £225,000 a week

The winger was deservedly handed a lucrative contract extension earlier this season, and he is the youngest player in our top five, having turned 22 back in May.

Some have argued that Foden hasn’t managed to reproduce his form at club level for England yet, but this tournament could be the perfect chance to introduce himself on the world stage.

3) John Stones – £250,000 a week

Considering the 28-year-old has not always been a regular starter during his time at Manchester City, it’s an eye-opener to see that he is the best-paid English centre-back.

That’s probably more down to City’s ability to throw money around than any true reflection of his abilities. He is a good defender but he has rarely been a standout player for England at international level. It remains to be seen if that will change in Qatar.

2) Jack Grealish – £300,000 a week

It’s fair to say that the midfielder hasn’t exactly pulled up any trees since moving to City at the start of last season, but he has been performing a lot better in recent weeks, which should hold him in good stead for the World Cup.

Whether Southgate will choose to start Grealish with so many other attacking talents at his disposal, though, we shall have to wait and see.

1) Raheem Sterling – £325,000 a week

The 27-year-old secured his high-profile move from City to Chelsea in the summer, and he started off the season with his new team pretty well, but his form has fallen off a cliff in recent weeks.

It’s certainly not ideal preparation for the World Cup, and Sterling will be hoping that he can replicate the type of performances we have seen from him in tournament football with England at this World Cup.
