The SEVEN United Players Who Could Be Sold In The January Transfer Window

Manchester United are reportedly considering a clearout of some of their fringe players when the transfer window reopens in January.

There are a few that have contracts that expire at the end of the season, while others simply don’t get enough matches to warrant their places in the squad.

The Sun have compiled a list of players that United are considering selling in the New Year, and we have rated the possibility of each of them leaving Old Trafford.

Press the next page we assess the futures of seven United stars who could be offloaded.

Donny van de Beek

The Dutchman has found it difficult since arriving from Ajax back in the summer of 2020 for a fee worth an initial £35m. Game time has been limited but, it must be said, he has done little to impress when he has been afforded minutes.

Whether van de Beek will be sold in the New Year, it does seem unlikely currently, especially with the uncertainty surrounding Paul Pogba’s future. Clubs such as Inter Milan have been linked in recent days but we shall see how things develop in the coming months

Jesse Lingard

The England international has scored two goals in his last two Premier League appearances, including a crucial winner in the league meeting against West Ham last weekend.

However, Lingard’s contract at Old Trafford expires next June and if he doesn’t sign a new deal, January would be the last opportunity to raise money from his sale.

Anthony Martial

Reports in recent days have suggested that the Red Devils have given the Frenchman permission to find another club but, with an asking price set at £40m, it remains to be seen who would be willing to take a chance on him.

Like with van de Beek, Inter are the team who have been most heavily linked with Martial, although it is doubtful they could afford the transfer fee.

Alex Telles

The Brazilian has been at the club barely a year, but he has not been able to challenge Luke Shaw for his starting spot at left-back over that period.

Telles is pretty capable going forward, and the fact that United don’t have another player in the squad who can provide real backup for Shaw, suggests he may end up staying.

Eric Bailly

The centre-half only signed a new contract back in April but he is quite a way down the pecking order under manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, having made his first appearance in the Carabao Cup last night.

If there is genuine interest in Bailly from clubs in Spain and United can get a good price, the Ivorian may be offloaded, but there are no suggestions of an imminent departure.

Diogo Dalot

Despite having impressed Solskjaer in preseason, the Portuguese international has still not had much game time in the Premier League, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka continuing to be favoured.

The Red Devils’ interest in Atletico Madrid’s Kieran Trippier does suggest that Dalot will be sold if the right offer arrives. The fullback spent last season out on loan at AC Milan and the Rossoneri could well be a decent shout for his next club.

Rating – 3/5 To Leave

Phil Jones

The 29-year-old has spoken out about his injury nightmare recently, having to spend over a year on the sidelines with a knee problem.

Jones continues to build up his fitness with the Under 23s and he was on the bench for the Carabao Cup defeat to West Ham yesterday evening. He is very much fifth choice at centre-back, though, so you’d expect he would jump at the opportunity of game time at another club after being out for so long.
