The Premier League’s Top 5 Best Ever Spanish Players

Particularly over the last two decades, Spanish players have become a more common sight in the Premier League.

There are a couple of principal reasons for that, with the improvement in the quality of players that have come out of the country, combined with the financial might of English football which can attract the best talent.

Manchester United have certainly had one or two standout performers from Spain in recent years so there will certainly be a name fans will recognise on this list.

Press the next page as we go through our five best Spanish players of the Premier League era.

5) Cesar Azplicueta

The Spanish defender’s consistency and adaptability since he arrived at Chelsea in 2012 has to be commended. He played as a left-back as he won the title under Jose Mourinho in 2015, but just two years later, he was employed by Antonio Conte as a centre-back in a back three as he helped secure his second league trophy.

As of 2020, he is still a prominent fixture in Frank Lampard’s side, having been played as a right-back, right wingback and left-back under the current Chelsea boss’s management.

4) Fernando Torres

The striker makes this list pretty much on the strength of his performances during his time at Liverpool, rather than his subsequent disappointing spell with Chelsea.

Torres frightened opposing defences with his power and pace during his first three years in England. He scored 65 league goals in just 102 games for the Reds. Injuries and poor form meant he never looked the same player after his £50m switch to Stamford Bridge.

3) Cesc Fabregas

The Spaniard provided 111 assists in 350 Premier League games for both Arsenal and Chelsea, which sums up the midfielder’s superb passing range.

Fabregas was integral to Chelsea’s two league title wins in 2015 and 2017, and he will go down as one of the best playmakers that English football has witnessed over the past thirty years.

2) David Silva

The Spanish magician is synonymous with the Sheikh Mansour era at Manchester City, dedicating a decade of service to the club where he has won four Premier League titles.

During his time in England, Silva scored 60 goals and contributed 106 assists in 309 league appearances for the Citizens; a hugely impressive record which will see him go down as a club legend for United’s city rivals.

1) David De Gea

Although the United goalkeeper has been hammered for his form over the past couple of seasons, you cannot argue with the fact that he was the best goalkeeper in the world for a number of years.

De Gea has been named in the PFA Team of the Year on no less than five occasions, whilst picking up the Golden Glove award in 2018.
