The Five Premier League (Outfield) Players Who Have Played The Most Minutes Of Football In 2021

The number of matches a Premier League star plays per season can depend on a number of different factors.

Natural fitness is an important characteristic but it also comes down to how a manager chooses to use a player throughout the course of the campaign.

Specific players can be so integral to a manager’s plan that they are reluctant to give them any rest at all.

In today’s post, we will be looking at the outfield players in the Premier League who have played the most minutes. Press the next page as we count down the top five.

5) Harry Maguire – Manchester United (5069 minutes)

Manchester United’s captain generally plays when he is fit. Previous head coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer refused to drop him even when it was clear he was out of form.

It will be interesting to see whether interim manager Ralf Rangnick will have the same approach or whether he utilises Maguire more sparingly.

4) Tomas Soucek – West Ham (5232 mins)

The Czech international has been almost ever-present in the Hammers’ starting eleven since he joined on an initial loan spell in January 2020.

West Ham manager David Moyes has placed a lot of trust in Soucek, who is able to play multiple roles in the middle of the park, staying deep to break up attacks or making late runs into the box to get on the end of crosses.

3) Bruno Fernandes – Manchester United (5266 mins)

The Portuguese midfielder has been United’s key playmaker over the last two years, and the Manchester club’s attack has looked bereft of ideas without him.

However, it seems the minutes may well be catching up with him. Fernandes’s form in recent months has been poor and there have even been calls to drop him from the starting lineup.

2) Antonio Rudiger- Chelsea (5295 mins)

The German was out in the cold before Thomas Tuchel arrived at Stamford Bridge last January but he has become a key lieutenant for his manager over the past 12 months.

Rudiger has been one of the best defenders in the Premier League since regaining his place in Chelsea’s defence and Tuchel seems reluctant to drop him for any game.

1) Ruben Dias – Manchester City (5446 mins)

Dias won the Football Writers’ Association Player of the Year and the Premier League Player of the Season during his first campaign with the Citizens.

Still only 24 years of age, the Portuguse centre-back has established himself among the elite in terms of defenders and City boss Pep Guardiola now depends on him to keep things tight at the back.
