The Five German Stars Who Have Scored The Most Goals In The Premier League

After listing the top goalscorers in Premier League history from France last week, we now turn our attention to players from Germany.

There are some notable German stars who have graced English football over the past three decades but, as you’ll see when we go through this list, not many were prolific goalscorers.

In fact, no German player has scored more than 50 Premier League goals and many will actually be surprised as to who comes out on top.

Press the next page as we look at the five highest German goalscorers of the Premier League era.

5) Leroy Sane (Manchester City) – 25 Goals

The German spent four years at the Etihad Stadium after signing from Schalke for £37m in 2016, and his first three seasons saw him make a big impression on the Premier League.

However, Sane suffered a serious knee injury at the start of the 2019/20 campaign, and his desire to return to Germany meant we never really saw the winger reach his full potential.

4) Ilkay Gundogan (Manchester City) – 27 goals

The midfielder has spent almost five years in the UK but he had not scored more than six league goals in a single season, up until this campaign.

Gundogan is currently the joint seventh-highest goalscorer in the league on 12, which means almost half of his goals in England have come since September last year.

2) Uwe Rosler (Manchester City) – 29 goals

Another former City player, the striker is joint second on this list after making his name during the mid-90s at Maine Road.

Rosler’s best form came in the 1994/95 season when he scored 15 league goals, but strangely, despite being a pretty consistent goalscorer for the Citizens, he never really replicated that form anywhere else. A brief spell with Southampton in 2000/01 saw him fail to score in 20 league appearances before he was sold.

2) Jurgen Klinsmann (Tottenham) – 29 goals

The German legend only made 56 league appearances during his two spells with Spurs but he was very prolific in front of goal. The 20 he scored during his first season at White Hart Lane was enough to see him earn the Footballer Writers’ Footballer of the Year award, as well as finishing runner-up for the Ballon d’Or.

After a two-year spell with Bayern Munich, he left for Sampdoria before another loan spell at Tottenham. During his second stint, he helped steer the London club away from relegation, scoring nine goals. He announced his retirement from the professional game shortly after.

1) Mesut Ozil (Arsenal) – 33 goals

The playmaker was more well known for his assists but, during his eight years in England, he did also score a decent number of goals.

Ozil’s time at Arsenal did end on a sour note, but he was certainly one of the best players from Germany to play on these shores.
