The Five Argentinian Stars Who Have Scored The Most Goals In The Premier League

Today, we begin a series looking at the top scorers in the Premier League era based on their respective countries.

For our first article, we have decided to look at players from Argentina. The South American country has produced a whole host of great strikers over the years, some of whom have graced English football.

However, it is not always easy to adapt to the game in this country and, for that reason, you may notice that some surprise names have made it onto this list.

Press the next page as we countdown the five top Argentinian Premier League scorers.

5) Leonardo Ulloa (Leicester and Brighton) – 19

A surprise inclusion in the top five, the Argentine target man spent his best years in the Championship with Brighton before moving to Leicester in 2014. He had a productive first season with the Foxes, scoring 11 Premier League goals.

However, Ulloa’s game time gradually reduced over the next few years, and he even returned on loan to Brighton in 2018, before he departed on a permanent basis for Mexican side Pachuca. He is currently playing in Spain for Rayo Vallecano.

4) Hernan Crespo (Chelsea) – 20

Chelsea paid £16.8m for the striker in 2003. He scored ten goals in his first season at Stamford Bridge before being loaned out to AC Milan following the arrival of Didier Drogba. He went on to score another ten goals for the Blues in the 2005/06 campaign after returning from Italy.

Despite his good goal record, Crespo was again loaned out to Inter Milan for two more years before eventually re-signing for the Nerazzurri on a permanent basis in 2008.

3) Manuel Lanzini (West Ham) – 21

Although the attacking midfielder has become more of a bit-part player for the Hammers over the past couple of years, he was very productive in his first three seasons at the London club.

Lanzini initially impressed on a loan spell from UAE club Al-Jazira, scoring six goals in 26 appearances. That led to West Ham signing him on a permanent basis. He would go on to score 13 more league goals in his next two campaigns.

2) Carlos Tevez (West Ham, Manchester United and Manchester City) – 84

After masterminding West Ham’s great escape from relegation in 2007, the Argentine was snapped up by United manager Sir Alex Ferguson. Following two productive years at Old Trafford, where he won the Premier League twice, he made the controversial switch to rivals City.

Tevez scored 20+ goals in his first two seasons at the Etihad but injuries and a desire to leave England eventually led to him joining Juventus in 2013.

1) Sergio Aguero (Manchester City) – 180

It’s no surprise who tops this list. The Argentine has scored over 20 league goals in six of his ten seasons with City in the Premier League. He is fourth on the Premier League all-time list for goals scored.

The £35m that City paid Atletico Madrid for Aguero in 2011 was certainly money well spent. His contract is up at the end of the season, though, and it remains to be seen whether he’ll stay at the Etihad.
