Solskjaer Reveals When Two United Starlets Will Make First Team Return

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says he expects youngsters Angel Gomes and James Garner to feature prominently in cup competitions for the club this season.

The pair performed well on the Red Devils’ tour of Asia but neither has played any minutes competitively for the first team this season, with both failing to make the matchday squads against Chelsea and Wolves.

However, Solskjaer has revealed that both Gomes and Garner will feature in the Carabao Cup next month when United enter the competition at the third round stage:

“When we get to September-October, the midweek games and cup competitions, we’ll see Jimmy, definitely. He’s done really well in the reserves. And Angel, definitely more of him.”

If Alexis Sanchez does leave the club before the end of the month, Gomes could have a more prominent role as the season goes on, with both the Portuguese midfielder and Mason Greenwood expected to offer back up for the likes of Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata.

Garner, meanwhile, may have to be more patient for his chances with Scott McTominay, Nemanja Matic and Andreas Pereira all ahead of him in the pecking order.
