Scholes Tells United To Go After ‘Brilliant’ Centre Back Target Who Has Been Linked With Chelsea

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes thinks his former club should make a move for Paris Saint-Germain captain Marquinhos.

While the centre-back would likely cost a sizeable sum, Scholes believes the Brazilian international would be a great solution to the Red Devils’ defensive problems:

“I would like to see a centre-half come in next to Maguire. I think Lindelof is doing alright, I just think alright isn’t good enough to win a league. Marquinhos from PSG, I think he’d be a brilliant centre-half next to Maguire but again you’re talking about a lot of money.”

Marquinhos has been linked with Chelsea in recent months, having been tipped to link up again with former manager Thomas Tuchel, but the likelihood of the 27-year-old leaving PSG any time soon is thought to be rather low.

United’s main priority at centre-half is said to be Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane. The Frenchman is likely to be available for a reasonable fee this summer, with the player reaching the final year of his contract.

Reports suggest that Villarreal’s Pau Torres, Sevilla’s Jules Kounde and Lille’s Sven Botman are also being looked at, which would suggest Scholes shouldn’t hold out any hope for the club making an approach for Marquinhos.
