Scholes Calls On United To Keep 21 Year Old Who Could Be Subject Of 15M Summer Bid

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes is hopeful that Diogo Dalot will come back to the Red Devils at the end of the season following his loan spell at AC Milan.

The BT Sport pundit was impressed with the Portuguese international’s performance for the Rossoneri against his parent club last night, and he thinks the 21-year-old still has a future at Old Trafford:

“He’s done the right thing to get games at a big club. That will do him the world of good. He played in an unfamiliar position tonight, on that left side, but even his crossing with his left foot was brilliant. I thought defensively he did everything he had to do. Where does he stand now? I think he’ll come back at the end of the season. Pre-season will be big for him. It’s time for him to really perform in those pre-season games.”

Milan do not have the option to buy Dalot at the end of his loan but it was reported back in January that the Serie A side were lining up a £15m bid for the fullback.

That offer did not materialise before the close of the last transfer window but they may well make their attempt in the summer. Whether United will consider bids for the defender, it remains to be seen.

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has recently said he is is “very happy” with Dalot’s loan spell in Italy, but he gave no indication as to whether he will be reintegrated into the first-team squad next season.
