Roy Keane Wants United To Makes Signings In Two Key Positions

Manchester United legend Roy Keane wants to see his former club sign another centre-back and a left-back when the transfer window reopens.

There has been a lot of talk of strengthening the attack, but the Irishman believes the Red Devils would be wiser to invest their transfer budget in defence:

“People always talk about the big clubs needing attacking players but I still think United need one or two defenders. I’m not convinced with the centre-half [pairing], they need another centre-half, and I’m certainly not convinced by Luke Shaw.”

“Brandon Williams has done well as a young kid, even though he’s right-footed playing on that side.”

United have been heavily linked with a number of centre-backs over the past few months with Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly and Juventus centre-half Matthijs de Ligt being repeatedly mentioned.

However, it is believed that manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is happy with his options in the centre of the defence and won’t prioritise a centre-back signing this summer.

There has been a lot less talk about a new left-back. The departure of Ashley Young to Inter Milan back in January did not force United into the transfer market with Williams having made his first-team breakthrough.

As Keane points out, though, it is questionable whether the 19-year-old and Luke Shaw are currently good enough for a club looking to challenge at the top end of the table.
