Romano Provides New Update Amid Reports That United May Consider Swoop For 71.5M Rated Ex Chelsea Star

Roma striker Tammy Abraham is not angling for a move back to the Premier League, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

Reports in Italy had suggested that the 24-year-old was looking to return to England as soon as possible, with the likes of former club Chelsea among his potential suitors. Manchester United and Arsenal have also been mentioned as possible destinations but Romano has shut down claims that Abraham is pushing for a transfer:

“Yes, it’s true that Chelsea have €80m (£71.5m) buy-back clause for Tammy Abraham next summer but again, Tammy is happy at Roma right now and there are no talks or negotiations with any clubs. It’s really important to mention that he’s happy there with Jose Mourinho as manager now – the Portuguese has given him a chance to shine and it’s been an important step for him in his career, so we will see in the next months or years about a Premier League return.”

While United are likely to be seeking a new forward next summer when Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract expires, it would still be a surprise if Abraham is the main option to replace him.

The England international has acquitted himself well in Italy, having scored 29 goals in 61 appearances, but it’s expected that Roma would hold out for a sizeable fee. Whether they would accept an offer below the buyback option that Chelsea have for the player, it seems doubtful, and United could probably find better value for money on the transfer market.
