Manchester United maintain a serious interest in PSV Eindhoven forward Cody Gakpo, according to Forbes reporter Sam Pilger.

The journalist claims that the Dutchman, who has bagged 10 goals and contributed nine assists in only 13 appearances this campaign, is being lined up as a potential replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo:

Gakpo was a target for the Red Devils during the summer transfer window but the cost of signing Antony from Ajax meant there wasn’t enough funds left to snap up the PSV captain as well.

The Eredivisie side’s Director of Football Marcel Brands confirmed that United made contact about signing the 23-year-old at the end of August but a deal did not materialise.

They may come to regret not signing him when they had the chance. The player is in excellent form and he is likely to be the subject of interest from many other teams in the New Year.

Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal have all previously kept tabs on Gakpo, in addition to Barcelona and Bayern Munich.
