Rio Ferdinand Delivers His Verdict On Who Has Had A “More Successful Season” Out Of United And Arsenal

Ex-Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand says it can be argued that his former club have had a better campaign than Arsenal.

The Gunners were in the title race until the final couple of weeks of the season but, despite finishing second, they have ended up trophyless once again. In contrast, United have qualified for the Champions League and could still win two domestic cups. Ferdinand says that, based on trophies alone, Erik ten Hag‘s team have had more success:

“Have Man United had a better season than Arsenal? If you were just laying it down and saying if you’re a player, do you want to finish fourth and win a trophy, whatever trophy that is, or third and win a trophy and qualify for the Champions League, or second, no trophy but be involved in the title race? I’m only taking the trophy and whatever position I finish, to finish in the Champions League, that’s it. That’s a more successful season.”

Ferdinand does make a good argument but, in the grand scheme of things, it shouldn’t really matter what other clubs are doing. The focus should be on the progress that United are making under ten Hag.

Compared to last season, when the Red Devils finished 6th on 58 points, there has been a massive improvement which will hopefully carry on into next campaign.

United Still Have One More Task This Season

After sealing Champions League qualification, ten Hag’s team will now turn their attentions towards winning the FA Cup final.

Not only are United aiming to pick up their second trophy of the campaign, they will be keen to stop arch-rivals City from picking up a treble.
