Raphael Varane To Start; Lisandro Martinez Out: United’s Predicted XI To Play Aston Villa

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag will be delighted by the way his side performed in the 3-0 win over West Ham last time out.

The victory didn’t come without a price, though, with Lisandro Martinez having been ruled out for eight weeks with a knee injury he sustained in the second half at Old Trafford.

It’s a devastating blow for the Argentinian international, who had spent most of the season sidelined after undergoing surgery on a broken metatarsal.

The Red Devils take on Aston Villa this weekend knowing that a win would put them right back in the fight for Champions League qualification. The Villans’ form has been rather inconsistent recently, with a 5-0 victory over Sheffield United sandwiched between two home defeats against Newcastle and Chelsea (in the FA Cup). It means a win at Villa Park on Sunday is not completely out of the question.

In terms of the lineup, Andre Onana will start in goal, having impressed with some good saves against the Hammers. Raphael Varane is expected to replace Martinez in the centre of defence, with the Frenchman partnering Harry Maguire.

As Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Tyrell Malacia are still not available for selection, ten Hag is set to pick Diogo Dalot and Luke Shaw in the two fullback positions.

There are not expected to be any changes from the West Ham fixture in the middle of the park, with Kobbie Mainoo and Casemiro sitting deep, and captain Bruno Fernandes playing in the no.10 position.

Up front, Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund have looked very sharp recently and, while Marcus Rashford‘s form has been rather worrying, he is likely to keep his place alongside the pair for now.
