‘Nonsense. They’d Be Demanding £70m+’ ‘God Forbid’ Fans Dispute Claim United Will Rival Chelsea For England International

Manchester United will compete with Chelsea for Leicester left-back Ben Chilwell, according to reports in the English media.

The Red Devils have been linked with the England international in the past, along with teammate James Maddison, but the Manchester club have been focused on strengthening other areas of the pitch.

With Luke Shaw, Brandon Williams and Diogo Dalot all capable of playing on the left-hand side of defence, supporters on Twitter are sceptical about the story, with many dismissing it as simply paper talk:

A new left-back is certainly not a priority for United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The club’s main targets are believed to be a right-winger, another attacking midfielder and a centre-back so Chilwell’s name is likely to be quite far down the list.

There is an argument to be made that Shaw has too many injuries, and Williams is more suited to being a right-back but, considering Leicester’s reported £80m valuation for Chilwell, that money could be better spent elsewhere.
