Neville Calls On United To Strengthen Two Positions In January Transfer Window

Ex-Manchester United defender Gary Neville thinks his former club must sign a midfielder and a striker during the January transfer window as a bare minimum.

The TV pundit acknowledges that the January market is notoriously difficult,  but he feels it is a necessity to buy in order to help out the young, inexperienced players in the squad:

“A minimum of a midfielder and a striker I’d say. Manchester United have found it hard to be smart in the transfer market and January is historically a difficult month to do business so it’s going to be tough.”

“But the young players – Rashford, Greenwood, James, Pereira, McTominay… they all need experience alongside them. Without some guidance, it’s really difficult for them.”

In Paul Pogba’s absence, the midfield, in particular, has looked bereft of quality and creativity, and it’s clear that the Red Devils need to strengthen that part of the team as soon as possible.

Up front, it is more to do with a lack of depth rather than quality, with the club unable to rely upon Anthony Martial staying fit to be the man leading the line.

There are, of course, other areas of the pitch that need improving. A right-winger could also be considered, while the left-hand side of defence may also be an area that needs to be looked at.
