Mourinho Provides Very Promising Update On Manchester United Star’s Future

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho believes goalkeeper David de Gea is very likely to sign a new contract at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils have exercised their option to extend the Spaniard’s current deal until 2020 to give them more time to negotiate with the player.

Speaking at today’s pre-match press conference, Mourinho said he is confident de Gea will put pen to paper on another contract:

“His agent lets him think and decide by himself so the point is just to agree the contract that the club wants to give and the player wants to accept. And I think, that’s just my feeling, they are going to finish well.”

De Gea has the same agent as Mourinho in Jorge Mendes, and so the Portuguese boss is very much clued in on the progress of negotiations.

There had been talk that the goalkeeper was looking for parity with Alexis Sanchez who signed a £500k a week contract when he joined from Arsenal back in January. However, it appears that discussions are now progressing well.

De Gea has come in for some criticism for his performances this season but he was back to his absolute best with an outstanding save in the 1-0 win over Young Boys on Tuesday night, helping to secure a place in the knockout rounds of the Champions League.
