Michael Owen Predicts The Outcome As United Play Burnley

Ex-Manchester United striker Michael Owen believes his former club may only scrape a win when they take on Burnley at Old Trafford tomorrow night.

The BT Sport pundit was not impressed by Ralf Rangnick side’s performance against Newcastle on Monday evening and, while he anticipates a better performance, he thinks they will have to work hard to overcome the Clarets:

“I expected more from United against Newcastle. Considering they had two weeks off, it was a disappointing showing. If they play like that, there’s no way they will get in the top four. I’d expect a response here at Old Trafford. I’m sure Sean Dyche will be looking to get some new faces in the club in January, particularly now they’ve got some games in hand. They’ll go to Old Trafford and try and frustrate United, keep the game as tight as possible. I worry about the lack of quality in this side though. I can’t see United destroying Burnley; Burnley are too organised for that. I do think they’ll get the win though.”

Owen has gone with a 2-1 win to United, which seems like a decent prediction. The Red Devils have been poor at home this season, while Burnley’s away record is one of the worst in the Premier League so don’t expect an exhilarating contest.

A 2-1 or 1-0 victory is probably the most likely outcome, unless the likes of Bruno Fernandes, Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo produce a moment of magic or two, which could make it a more comfortable evening. Fans will probably need to stay patient as Rangnick’s men try to break down Burnley’s stubborn resistance.
