Former Manchester United defender Wes Brown believes the Red Devils’ talisman, Marcus Rashford has ‘not had a great season’ and hopes he can ‘pick himself up’.

Last season, Rashford was undeniably one of the most dangerous attacking talents in the Premier League – however, in 2023/24, the 26-year-old simply has not been meeting the lofty standards he has set for himself.

Brown assured readers that he thinks Rashford is a ‘great player’, using his excellent performance against Manchester City as an example. Nevertheless, he wants Rashford to play like that on a consistent basis.

Brown played for United between the years of 1996 and 2011, having joined the Red Devils’ academy in 1992. He went on to make 232 appearances for the club – after his time at Old Trafford, he played for Sunderland, Blackburn Rovers and Kerala Blasters, before retiring from professional football in 2018. Additionally, he also won 23 England caps during his career, scoring a single international goal.

What did Wes Brown say about Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford?

Speaking to Instant Casino, Brown said: “Marcus Rashford’s not had a great season. Last season he was brilliant and you’d have thought that he’d carry it on, but it’s been difficult for him at times. I do think he’s a great player – we all saw what he can do against Manchester City, but he needs to do that more consistently. There’s been a lot of pressure on him this season and he’s not dealt with it that well.

“Manchester United have really struggled with scoring goals generally this season, whereas last season he was the one scoring goals and saving the team. He would have liked to have played better up until now, so hopefully he can pick himself up and start to score the goals again for the team to move forward, because they’re going to really need him in Rasmus Hojlund’s absence.”
