Manchester United have recently enjoyed a significant boost in regards to their pursuit of Sassuolo midfielder Davide Frattesi. According to journalist Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Brighton and Hove Albion are ‘currently not working’ on a deal.

Due to this, United now stand alone in terms of English clubs wishing to snap up the 23-year-old dynamo. While there is interest from his native Italy, Sassuolo CEO Giovanni Carnevali has said that Frattesi’s ‘best opportunity’ is with an English club [via the Metro].

In Romano’s tweet, he wrote: “Brighton are currently not working on Davide Frattesi deal despite the recent reports.”

Outside of England, Inter Milan are also reported to have registered an interest in acquiring Frattesi’s services. Additionally, Jose Mourinho’s Roma are also believed to want to sign the player – Juventus have also monitored him previously.

Despite this, a move to England seems to be the priority for both the club and Frattesi at this stage. As such, United can be considered the frontrunners in the hunt to bring him on board.

Davide Frattesi career summary

Born in Rome, Frattesi played for both of the major teams in Italy’s capital city as a youngster. He began his youth career at SS Lazio, before making the jump to Roma in 2014.

In 2017, Frattesi signed for Sassuolo and made his debut for the Watermelon Peel in that same year at the age of 18. Over the next few years, he enjoyed a trio of loan spells at Ascoli, Empoli and Monza at varying levels of Italian football.

The current season has been a breakout one for the 23-year-old. Over the course of 36 Serie A games, Frattesi has scored seven goals from midfield – however, he has failed to notch up a single assist so far.
