Manchester United fans are NOT happy with the club’s new home kit

Manchester United have released their brand new home kit ahead of the new season – but the fans are not happy at all.

The new Adidas jersey – which will be worn by the players for the first time later this month in the USA – marks the 140th anniversary of the club, and it’s design plays homage to the roots of the Red Devils and you can see all 3 of the club’s new kits for 2018-19 in our United kit review.

Newton Heath Cricket and Football Club (United’s original name) was formed in 1878 by the Carriage and Waggon department of the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway depot, and played their home games at North Road, Manchester.

Twenty-Four years later, and having moved into the top division of English football, Newton Heath became Manchester United. Eight years on from that in 1910, United moved into Old Trafford – the ground they still occupy today.

Richard Arnold, Group Managing Director of Manchester United, said: There are many great moments in this club’s fantastic history, and none more important than the year the club was founded, back in 1878. This shirt from adidas pays homage to the year we were founded, and marks 140 years of footballing success.

“The train track graphic on the shirt is a reference to the origins of the club, when the team was known as Newton Heath (Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway) Cricket and Football Club. Again, adidas has shown how innovative they are with their designs – taking a moment from the past and reshaping it for supporters into a jersey which I am sure the fans will love.

Arnold however, appears to have been wrong in his premonitions …
