Manchester United’s New 2018/19 Kits Reviewed

Manchester United have officially revealed their new Home kit for the 2018/19 season, and although many believe the extortionate prices set by the club for the strip is an outrage, there is no denying that they are an attractive look for the upcoming season.

The shirt is inspired by the club’s railwaymen founders, by displaying black train lines across the bottom but some United fans are NOT impressed with the new shirt.

Richard Arnold, group managing director at United, said in a statement: “There are many great moments in this club’s fantastic history, and none more so important than the year the club was founded, back in 1878.

“This shirt from adidas pays homage to the year we were founded, and marks 140 years of footballing success.”

The only downside to the kit is the staggering price. The full authentic kit, including a name and number, shorts and socks, will cost £192.85.

Whilst not officially announced yet, the away kit has already caused a big stir amongst fans after pictures emerged of the kit on sale in a Taiwanese Adidas shop, all but confirming rumours that had circulated for weeks – the away strip will be pink.

It is believed that the light pink colour is paying tribute to the Pink Football section of the Manchester Evening News, which was printed on light-pink paper similar to that of the Financial Times.

Opinions are split on the shirt, with younger fans generally taking to the bold colour more than the rest.

United’s third kit was the first of the bunch to be released, and was an instant hit with not only fans of the Red Devils but also the public in general, after it was revealed to be made from ocean plastic.

The kit celebrates the 50 year anniversary of United’s first European Cup win, when Sir Matt Busby’s men beat Benfica 4-1 at Wembley.

“It’s great to be able to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Club’s first European Cup win,” said United director Richard Arnold about the third kit.

“This jersey represents an important moment for our club, and combines our record-breaking history – when we became the first English team to win the competition.

“We are all acutely aware of the threat of plastic to the environment and we are delighted to be able to raise further awareness with this recycled kit, which I am sure the fans will love,” continued Arnold.

So as usual the latest Manchester United kits have divided opinion, not least the reported look of the away kit. However, the initiative to highlight the tragic plastic problem affecting our oceans and environment as a whole by making the 3rd shirt from recycled plastic is admirable indeed.
