Manchester United have decided to hold a face-to-face meeting with Chelsea to resolve the future of Mason Mount, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

It was originally reported that the Red Devils had opted against discussing the situation further with the Blues after having their last £55m bid rejected. They left the offer on the table but it was claimed that they would move on to other targets if Chelsea didn’t accept the offer. However, talking on his Youtube channel, Romano has said that United have had a change of heart:

“From what I understand, Man United decided to speak to Chelsea so there will be direct club-to-club contact to decide about what they want to do. United insists on paying £50m plus £5m in add-ons. Chelsea still want £65m to let Mason Mount go so it is now important to understand in or out what happens this week.”

It is believed that Chelsea want at least £58m upfront, with another £7m in bonuses, so the difference between the two sides is not insurmountable.

United Manager Erik ten Hag is said to be very keen on signing Mount so that is likely why the club have opted to re-enter talks.

With personal terms agreed, United hold all the cards

Earlier in the summer, it was reported that Arsenal and Liverpool were also interested in Mount but the player has made his feelings clear that he wants to make the switch to Old Trafford.

United have already agreed a contract with Mount and, with the player likely to leave on a free transfer next year if he isn’t sold by Chelsea this summer, the Blues are in a position where they really need to sell. You do feel that, due to the player’s situation, an agreement will be reached at some point.
