REPORT: United Are ‘Expected’ To Make £50M Bid For 36 Cap International ‘This Week’

Manchester United are “expected” to table an improved £50m offer for Chelsea attacking midfielder Mason Mount “this week”, according to the Daily Mail.

The Red Devils had an opening bid, reported to be worth £40m, knocked back by the Blues last Wednesday, with the London club having slapped a £70m price tag on the player.

Mount, who has been capped 36 times by England, is believed to have already agreed personal terms with United, having turned down proposals from Chelsea to extend his stay at Stamford Bridge.

The 24-year-old only has a year remaining on his current deal, and United are hoping that they can find a compromise with his club over the transfer fee.

There is a danger that Mount could look to leave on a free transfer next year so Chelsea could well be forced to back down on their demands.

Do United have any rivals for Mount’s signature?

Both Liverpool and Arsenal had registered an interest in signing Mount but, when it became clear that he favoured a transfer to Old Trafford, the two teams opted to drop out of the race and move on to other targets.

The Red Devils, therefore, have a clear run to snap up the midfielder, which should give them some leverage in negotiations.

Are United pursuing other targets?

While Erik ten Hag’s side are said to be targeting players in a number of different positions, Mount is the only one they have made a formal offer for so far this summer.

Bringing in a new number nine, as well as a new centre-back and goalkeeper are all reportedly under consideration but limited funds mean the Red Devils are being very cautious in the transfer market.

It could be the case that once they have a deal in place for Mount, moves for other targets will be stepped up, but we shall have to wait and see.
