Luke Shaw To Start And Scott McTominay On The Bench: United’s Predicted XI To Play Luton

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag will be keen to carry on the momentum from recent results when his team take on Luton Town this weekend.

Despite the Hatters battling for survival at the bottom of the table, this is likely to be a tricky game for the Red Devils to negotiate.

Rob Edwards’s side have made things difficult for the biggest teams at home this season. League leaders Liverpool needed a last-gasp equaliser to salvage a point when they played at Kenilworth Road.

Arsenal required a 97th winner to secure a 4-3 victory back in December, while Manchester City only won 2-1, having come from behind after Elijah Adebayo opened the scoring.

In terms of team news, the big decision for ten Hag will be whether to risk the fitness of Luke Shaw. The defender was taken off at half-time during the 2-1 win over Aston Villa last Sunday as a precaution after feeling a twinge in a muscle.

However, with no other fit left-backs, the England international may be selected anyway. The rest of the backline is also likely to remain unchanged, with Andre Onana in goal, Diogo Dalot on the right flank, and Raphael Varane partnering Harry Maguire in the centre of defence.

Scott McTominay’s winner against Villa may not be enough to get him a recall to the starting lineup. Casemiro and Kobbie Mainoo are set to keep their positions alongside captain Bruno Fernandes in midfield.

Rasmus Hojlund is expected to lead the line, following his very impressive form in front of goal recently. Alejandro Garnacho and Marcus Rashford will play either side of the Dane, with Antony having to make do with a place on the substitutes bench once again.
