Manchester United are keeping tabs on Napoli goalkeeper Alex Meret, according to reports in the English media.
It is believed that Dean Henderson could spend another year away on loan to continue his development, and manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is said to be considering bringing in a young goalkeeper to compete with David De Gea for the number one spot.
Supporters on Twitter can’t quite get their head around why United would prioritise signing another keeper:
Lol do we honestly need another

No..that's a downgrade..
He's young but he's not world-class.— Noodles (@saravananbk05) August 7, 2020
Only keepers I'd replace De Gea with are Dean, Oblak or Donnarumma

It is a very strange link. If Solskjaer wanted someone to compete with De Gea, he could just keep Henderson, and even if the 23-year-old were to be sent out on loan again or sold to Chelsea, United already have a very able backup option in Sergio Romero.
Meret is a decent young goalkeeper but anyone who has watched Serie A this season will know he hasn’t had the best of campaigns for Napoli. It’s probably best to treat this rumour with a great deal of scepticism.
