Lindelof not feeling stressed over lack of game time

Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof has had a tough start to life at the club so far. The Swede arrived at Old Trafford for a fee of around £30m in the summer, but has failed to make a single start in the Premier League for the Red Devils.

The centre back looked rather shaky during his first couple of appearances for the club, but has improved in time with the latest of his four appearances for United so far. However, he does not yet look the finished article by any means, and it is quite likely that he is Mourinho’s 4th choice centre back at the moment.

Regardless, Lindelof has insisted that he has a ‘good dialogue’ with Mourinho, and says he feels no stress about his lack of game time so far.

Asked about his relationship with the United manager, Lindelof told Swedish website Expressen:

“It’s between me and him. But we talk and have a good dialogue.”

“I feel no stress. I’m at one of the world’s best clubs, it’s clear that it’s a tough competition – but I have the time it takes.”

Mourinho has always insisted that the Swedish international will come good in time, but needs to be patient in order to fully nail down a spot in the first team.

“Victor will be given time and no pressure for his evolution,” said Mourinho about Lindelof last month.

“He has a very specific position on the pitch and I was saying he needs time, he needs time and he will be given time but also opportunities.”

“Because just time and no opportunities to play then the evolution gets slower.”

“He needs time, no pressure, but also he needs opportunities. The fact that he played against Basel and then against Burton then in the future he’s going to have more opportunities to play.”

“He will prove step by step that he is ready to play.”
