Journalist Claims Agent Is Still “Optimistic” About United Star’s Transfer Away From Old Trafford

Cristiano Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes remains “optimistic” that he can engineer the Manchester United forward’s move to Atletico Madrid, according to Anton Meana.

Speaking on Spanish radio station Cadena SER, the journalist claimed that Mendes is prepared to do what is necessary financially in order to help make the move possible:

“Jorge Mendes is still very optimistic that Cristiano can reach Atleti. The club repeats that it is impossible But Mendes, as an intermediary and soccer man, says that if the problem is economic, it can be fixed. If they close the door for an economic issue, he dedicates himself to that. If players have to be released to come, they can wait. He remains optimistic and would not look badly on helping Griezmann or Saul [Niguez] find a way out. Until Atleti say that it is impossible no matter what happens, they will continue working”.

After the likes of Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain ruled themselves out of the race to sign Ronaldo, the 37-year-old’s options are narrowing.

It seems Mendes is trying every trick in the book in order to get his client away from Old Trafford, but teams are simply not taking the bait.

Atletico seem like the only possibility at the moment but, even then, the La Liga side’s president Enrique Cerezo has suggested that they are not interested in doing a deal. Whether that will change before the transfer window closes next month, we shall have to wait and see.
