Arsenal legend Ian Wright says he expects Manchester United to lose more games this season after watching their performance against Fulham at the weekend.

Following Erik ten Hag’s side defeat to the Cottagers, Wright said that he can’t see the Red Devils improving a great deal between now and the end of the campaign:

“They are so unorganised. There is going to be some more defeats for Man United this season.”

United have now lost ten Premier League matches, which is one more than they did during the whole of last campaign.

After five consecutive wins in all competitions, the Fulham loss is a massive setback, and it prompts more questions about the direction of the club under ten Hag.

Fading hopes of Champions League qualification

The recent upturn in results had increased optimism that United could finish in the top 4, but the loss on Saturday means they are now eight points adrift of Aston Villa, who won against Nottingham Forest to extend the gap.

Of course, there is still some hope that fifth could be enough to clinch a Champions League place but that will also rely on Tottenham slipping up. Ange Postecoglou’s side are currently three points above the Red Devils with a game in hand.

United struggled without Hojlund

Wright is right to point out how disorganised United were at the back against Fulham but they have been able to dig themselves out of holes recently due to the form of Rasmus Hojlund in front of goal.

However, with the Denmark international absent due to injury, ten Hag’s side were blunt up top. Marcus Rashford invariably struggles when asked to play through the middle and they don’t have any other fit senior strikers available.

United’s decision not to recruit a new No.9 in January could well come back to haunt them.
