‘Too Many Off Days’ Pundit Blasts Manchester United In Wake Of 2-1 Fulham Defeat

Former Arsenal player and Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson had some harsh words for Manchester United after they were beaten by a score of 2-1 at Old Trafford by Marco Silva’s Fulham.

Merson believed that Fulham were ‘by far the better team’ on the day. He noted that United were very poor for most of the outing, only coming alive when former captain Harry Maguire found the back of the net late on.

Adding to this, he believed that Fulham looked more like Manchester United than United did, stating that to the untrained eye, one may have believed that it was in fact United who were playing in white, not the Cottagers.

Fulham opened the scoring with a goal from Calvin Bassey in the second half, only to be pegged back by Maguire. They weren’t done yet, though – they snatched a winner in added time thanks to a fine strike from Alex Iwobi.

What did Paul Merson say about Manchester United’s performance against Fulham?

Speaking on Sky Sports’ Soccer Saturday, Merson said: “If you’d have come over from another country and I said, ‘I’m going to treat you and take you to Old Trafford to watch Man United’, and they didn’t know much about football, they’d have thought United were playing in white.

“Honestly, they [Fulham] were by far the better team in my opinion. What Harry Maguire’s saying there, it was only the last 10 or 15 minutes that United got a head of steam and got a goal back. Fulham, with seven points away from home, they don’t know how to win away from home [this season], so their natural reaction is to go and sit back.

“In the end, they got the goal that I thought they deserved in the end. So yeah, you would have thought Fulham were Man United to be honest. Too many off days today.”
