“I Am Told…” Romano Provides Update On United’s Pursuit Of 34M Rated Wonderkid

Fabrizio Romano has played down speculation that Manchester United are keen to sign Metz midfielder Pape Matar Sarr before the transfer window closes.

Reports in the English media earlier this week had claimed that the Red Devils (along with Chelsea and Manchester City) were linings up bids for the teenager, but Romano claims no offer is imminent from the Red Devils:

“I am told when I’m asking about this kind of player that Manchester United are scouting him. I don’t see it as imminent but it could be an opportunity for the future. It’s one of the most interesting players they have in France now in this position. It’s one of other clubs are keen on as well, but it’s not one where anything is going to happen in the next few hours.”

Sky Sports journalist Kaveh Solhekol had even said on Monday that Metz president Bernard Serin had flown in to London for talks with interested clubs over a €40m (£34m) transfer.

However, it seems that the reporter (who isn’t the most reliable) was incorrect in claiming that a deal was on the cards for the Senegalese international.

Chelsea or City may well still make an offer to sign Sarr ahead of the transfer deadline in a couple of weeks but, from the sound of things, United will not be getting involved.
