Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville says England manager Gareth Southgate, former Chelsea boss Graham Potter and Wolves head coach Gary O’Neil are not good fits for Manchester United.

All three are thought to be managerial candidates that INEOS are considering if they decide to dispense with the services of Erik ten Hag at the end of the season. However, speaking on The Overlap, Neville said he can’t see the trio managing his former club:

“Even Gareth [Southgate], as well as he has done with England, I have not seen the fit between him and Man United. I had never seen the fit between Graham Potter and Man United, that’s been a strong rumour.”

“I don’t see the fit between Gary O’Neil and Man United. Instinctively, as a fan of a club, you feel it or you don’t, it’s not a feeling I’ve had. I’ve not had a feeling that, that (person) feels like a United manager.”

Rumours about United’s interest in O’Neil have been downplayed

News emerged earlier this week that the Red Devils want to talk with the current Wolves boss about a coaching position at the club.

However, it has been suggested that O’Neil may not be offered the manager’s job but another role; one which the 40-year-old would see as a demotion.

Who are the favourites to replace ten Hag in the dugout?

The bookmakers have made Southgate the leading contender to succeed ten Hag if the Dutchman is sacked. Sky Bet currently have the Three Lions boss at 2/1.

Potter is second favourite, while current Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel is third in the running. The German is set to leave the Bundesliga champions at the end of the season and he is said to be keen on a return to England.

Based on Neville’s remarks, you could see him saying that Tuchel would be a better fit for United than the others mentioned.
