‘Jim Wants Us To Become A Midtable Team’ ‘Not A Man United Manager’ Fans React As Club Are Linked With 40 Year Old

Manchester United are keen to hold talks with Wolves boss Gary O’Neil about a potential role in their new coaching setup, according to ESPN.

It’s not clear whether the Red Devils want the 40-year-old to replace Erik ten Hag as manager or if he is being considered for another job.

However, if O’Neil is being looked at as ten Hag’s successor, fans on X are not particularly enthusiastic about the idea:

O’Neil’s coaching credentials are strong

The former Portsmouth and West Ham player has excelled since moving into management, having impressed in spells at Bournemouth and Wolves.

O’Neil guided the Cherries to a 15th place finish in the Premier League last campaign and his Wolves team are currently in the top half of the table with ten games to go. He has, though, never managed a team the size of United.

United are considering other replacements for ten Hag

While Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS have not made a final decision on the current manager’s future yet, ESPN do claim that they have begun to assess their options.

The likes of Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi, England head coach Gareth Southgate and Brentford boss Thomas Frank are just three of the names who could feature on their shortlist if they do dispense with ten Hag’s services at the end of the season.
