De Gea eyeing first ever Premier League Golden Glove

Manchester United keeper David De Gea says he is eyeing his first ever Premier League ‘Golden Glove’ award after having kept 13 clean sheets already this season.

The Spaniard leads the race for the coveted trophy, one clean sheet ahead of his closest rival, Chelsea’s Thiabut Courtois, who has kept 12 so far this campaign.

Manchester City’s Ederson has managed 10, while Petr Cech, Hugo Lloris and Burnley’s Nick Pope have each managed nine.

And De Gea is confident he can keep up is astonishing form between the sticks to take home the trophy for the first time come the end of the season.

“Of course, I would love to win it,” he told MUTV. “Not just this year but every year!

“I feel it’s a reflection of how well the team is defending as a whole when a goalkeeper wins an award like this.

“I feel we have defended well as a team this season and it would be a trophy for my colleagues and all the lads, in particular those in defence who protect you.”

De Gea, who is unbeaten in 2018 thus far, will aim for another shut-out when the Reds face Burnley at Turf Moor on Saturday.

The former Atletico Madrid star is only two off his best total of Premier League clean sheets in a single season for United, having managed to keep 15 during the 2015/16 season.
