David Seaman Blames “Selfish” Teammates As United Summer Signing Struggles To Get Service

Arsenal legend David Seaman believes Rasmus Hojlund’s lack of Premier League goals this season is due to his Manchester United teammates failing to pass to him.

Speaking on his Seaman Says podcast, the former England goalkeeper said that the £72m summer signing is making the right runs and getting into “good positions”, but he is being let down by the “selfish moments” of others.

“Rasmus Hojlund must be so frustrated because he gets into so many good positions but doesn’t receive the ball. He doesn’t receive it for tap-ins or little near post headers or things like that.”

“When he scored the goal [against Newport County], I was really pleased for him. I love the fact that he properly celebrates and a lot of frustration comes out in his celebrations and I can totally understand it. For me, he’s a good player but he’s not getting the right supply. There is a lot of selfish moments.”

Fernandes seemingly agrees with Seaman

Speaking after the 4-2 win over Newport County at the weekend, captain Bruno Fernandes made a point of saying that too many United players had wasted chances because of their selfishness in the front of goal:

“We have to kill the game. In the first half, we had chances to make it 3-0, but because when you get 2-0 in these kinds of games, everyone wants to try to score and get their goal, sometimes we don’t make the best decision for the team. After we did a great job to close the game.”

Fernandes’s honesty has been criticised by some pundits but it does demonstrate that Seaman is not the only one who thinks that there needs to be more teamwork in the final third of the pitch.

United fans will be patient with Hojlund

The Dane may have only scored 8 goals in 28 appearances since joining from Atalanta in the summer, but there are signs that he is beginning to find some form.

Hojlund has now hit the back of the net 3 times in his last 4 appearances, having also broken his Premier League duck last month. After scoring 5 goals in 6 Champions League appearances too, many supporters feel that the 21-year-old could still end up being a good signing.
