Club President Reveals Transfer Stance As United Consider 56M Swoop For ‘Sergio Ramos’s Heir’

Villarreal president Fernando Roig has said that Pau Torres will be allowed to leave the Spanish club this summer.

The 24-year-old has been heavily linked with Manchester United, along with the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal in recent months.

A move to Real Madrid has also been touted, leading to reports in the Spanish press that he is ‘Sergio Ramos’s heir,’ and Roig suggests that Villarreal will be open to selling if they feel a deal is right for everyone involved:

“If they arrive with the money and the player wants to move. But there must be an agreement between all three parties.”

It’s likely that any club would have to pay Torres’s €65m (£56m) release clause if they wanted to snap up the Spanish international.

There had been some claims that he could be available for substantially less, but the defender’s role in Villarreal’s Europa League triumph means demand for his services will be high. With the La Liga side’s president having made it clear they won’t stand in the player’s way if he wants to leave, it is now very much in United’s hands to make the next move.
