Paul Merson Predicts The Result As Manchester United Play Burnley

Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson is expecting Manchester United to secure the three points when they face Burnley this evening.

Erik ten Hag’s side have lost 3 matches in a row heading into the fixture at Turf Moor but Merson is predicting that the Red Devils will record a narrow victory:

“Manchester United will have to make their next seven games in all competitions count if they are to recover from their sloppy start to the season and I think they’ll do that with a hard-fought away win this weekend.”

“Burnley, though, will look to take the game to the Red Devils and cause problems. I fancy them to score considering Manchester United’s dismal defensive record, but the Red Devils will just stumble over the line to secure all three points.”

Merson has gone with a 2-1 win to United. Most fans would take that after a difficult week, which has seen them lose twice and concede 7 goals in the process.

Burnley will put up a fight

Although Vincent Kompany’s side have lost 3 of their first 4 league fixtures, they have looked competitive in every match they have played so far.

On the opening day against Manchester City, they did cause the Premier League champions problems. They also went 1-0 up versus Tottenham before losing the match.

United will feel that the Clarets can be got at defensively

Tonight’s opponents are pretty attack-minded, and it has led to them conceding 12 times in the opening month of the season. Of course, United’s defensive record has not been that much better but, if ten Hag’s men can tighten things up at the back, their opponents could be picked off.

The Red Devils are usually pretty strong when they can play on the counter-attack and Burnley should give them plenty of opportunities to do just that.
