Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes that Manchester United can still turn their season around if they can replicate what Manchester City did last campaign.

Pep Guardiola’s side had a poor beginning to the 2020/21 season before going on to win the title, and Wenger says that it is possible for the Red Devils to get out of their current difficulties:

“You have to try to create hope. Manchester City won the title last year, they were 11 points behind at one stage and they were 10th in the league in December. So if they rectify it, they are still not out of it completely. Also, in the Champions League, they can still qualify. So their season is not dead but if they continue like that, it will be quickly.”

To be honest, Wenger is being rather kind on United. While City did have some bad performances (such as the 5-2 home defeat to Leicester), nothing can compare to how poor Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team were against Liverpool yesterday.

Solskjaer did recover from the 6-1 home loss to Tottenham last year, but even the Norwegian admits that the embarrassing 5-0 humiliation fans witnessed last night was far worse.

Coincidentally, the Red Devils take on Spurs in their next league game on Saturday and, if Solskjaer is still in charge for the game, there will be enormous pressure to get a result.
