Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville says Manchester United will have to up their game if they are to get a result against Arsenal this weekend.

Erik ten Hag’s side have not looked convincing in their first three Premier League fixtures and Neville believes they will need to improve if they are to come away with any points from the Emirates on Sunday:

“Manchester United are decent on the counterattack. It is a big test for United because their performances this season so far, all three of them have been below par, and I think if you are below par at the Emirates, you are going to get beaten. So, United are going to have to rise and raise the game.”

It should be pointed out that the Gunners haven’t been at their best either, drawing against ten-man Fulham last time out. However, Neville is right to issue a warning to United’s players.

Defensive vulnerabilities could cost them against Arsenal

After being pretty decent at the back during ten Hag’s first season in charge, things have been decidedly ropey in defence so far this campaign, having conceded four times in three matches already.

Letting in two goals in the first four minutes against Forest will ring alarm bells, and you would hope that ten Hag opts to make his side harder to beat when they face the Gunners.

A win could kickstart United’s season

If the Red Devils can step up to the plate, though, and secure a win against last season’s title challengers, it would be a massive confidence boost heading into the international break.

Ten Hag’s men showed in the first half against Tottenham that they can impose their game against good teams on the road and the goal will be to perform to that level for the full 90 minutes at the Emirates.
